What Is Percentage Calculator?
Percentage calculations appear constantly in everyday life — working out tax, calculating discounts, understanding statistics, grading exams and comparing data. Despite being simple in concept (a percentage is just a fraction of 100), the different forms of percentage questions can be confusing: what is 15% of 240? What percentage is 36 of 150? What is the percentage change from 80 to 100?
This calculator handles all common percentage operations in one place. Enter the values you know and it computes the answer, saving you from mental arithmetic mistakes that are easy to make with percentages, especially when dealing with percentage increase versus percentage decrease.

Tips & Best Practices
Percentage increase and decrease are not symmetrical: a 50% increase followed by a 50% decrease does not return to the original value.
To find X% of a number quickly, move the decimal point: 10% = divide by 10, 1% = divide by 100.
For percentage change, the formula is ((new - old) / old) × 100 — always divide by the original value.
A "basis point" used in finance equals 0.01% — 50 basis points is 0.5%.
Common Use Cases
Calculating VAT or sales tax on purchases.
Working out the percentage grade from a test score.
